Mrs Hunter - 1YH
In 1YH we have PE every Monday and Friday.
Pupils will need to come to school in their full PE Kit instead of uniform for the days above.
Earth restoration project
Today we had great fun in the outdoor learning area planting our trees for our earth restoration project and developing the natural area. We discussed how to look after the trees and each child was careful in planting their tree. The children found a variety of bugs and creepy crawlies while digging, ensuring that they found them a new home. They have considered where the bugs will live thinking of materials they will use to create their own bug hotels.
Welcome back, we would like to offer you a warm welcome to 1YH 😊
We hope that you had a lovely summer break and are now excited about joining year 1.
We have lots of exciting new things to learn.
We will be sending reading books home on a Monday, these need to be returned on a Friday. We ask that you read with your children a minimum of three times a week. Please indicate that your child has read by writing in the reading record. Children which read three times or more per week, every week in the half term will receive a reading award.
Sounds and Words
Phonics are used to help children read and write. In addition to reading books we will be sending home, letter and word strings for your child to learn. The words can also be found in the reading records for you to refer to. These will be highlighted once they are known fluently. They will be checked every week and new ones added when needed. Please help your child by practising with them as frequently as possible. Our school follows the Read Write Inc phonics scheme. If you have any questions about phonics or reading please come and talk to the Year 1 team.
