What a week...

Phew, we have completed our first full week in year 2! The children have settled in extremely well and I have loved getting to know them all more this week. I have been amazed by the resilience of the children and how they have adapted to school life, not only after a long summer break, but after the disruption of last year too.

The children have started a new English unit based around the film 'A song of the sea'. They have begun to build some amazing sentences using adverbs, adjectives, questions and superlatives. All working towards our independent write at the end of the unit.

The children have also now completed a week in their new phonics groups, learning new sounds and reading the new texts. They can now remember which group they are in and how to get there (more than the teachers!)

We have been recapping learning from year 1 in Maths, particularly looking at numbers to 50 and tens and ones. The children have been using lots of resources from our Maths trugs to explore different ways of making numbers.

Finally, we have had a bit of an arty week. We dug the paints out and explore with mixing yellow and blue to make green. We looked at different ways of making different shades. We have also used Lego pieces to do some printing. I was particularly impressed when the children made different shapes and letters out of Lego and printed on those.

To relax at the end of a day we have story time with our class book. The class did a vote and the majority of the class wanted to read 'The BFG' by Roald Dahl. We are really enjoying it so far!

Hello all and welcome to 2TC's Class Page!

This is where you will be able to find out lots of information throughout this school year, so please do check regularly.

Reading books -

We will change reading books on a Monday and Friday. Please ensure you read at home with your child at least 3 times a week, it really does make a difference! Once you have read, make a note in their reading record so we know how they got on and when to change their book.

Your child will also have a library book - this is a book for you to enjoy with your child, maybe a bedtime story book?

Please bring your child's reading books with them everyday in their book bag, so we can listen to them read at school too.

If you would like any support with reading at home with your child, please don't hesitate to ask.

PE

Our PE sessions will take place on a Monday morning and a Friday afternoon. Please ensure children come to school in their PE kits on these days.

I look forward to getting to know you this year.

As always, please come and speak to me if you have any questions or concerns about any aspect of your child's education or welfare.

Thanks for your continued support,

Mrs Cole
