Celebrating Queen Elizabeth II's  Platinum Jubilee!

To commemorate the Platinum Jubilee, we have been learning about the concept of monarchy, Queen Elizabeth II and how life has changed from the 1950s to today. Each year group showcased their wonderful learning by creating a section for our whole school timeline charting the Queen's 70 year reign.

Each year group also learnt and performed a song from their decade and the whole school enjoyed a Jubilee picnic lunch together. We had a wonderful week and love seeing our work from Nursery to Year 6 displayed together!

Sharing Brilliant Books!

On World Book Day, our Reception and Year 1 children loved hearing stories read to them by our Year 5 and 6 Reading Ambassadors.

World Book Day Classroom Door Transformations!

As part of World Book Day, classes were challenged to transform their classroom doors to celebrate books and they all did an amazing job! There were doors inspired by a range of books from The Rainbow Fish to Holes to Elmer to The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. Well done everybody!

The Planetarium Visits KS1!

KS1 have been learning all about space. The children were particularly excited when we had a visit from Andy, who brought his planetarium to the school hall! We were able to go inside the dome and look closely at all of the planets we had been learning about. Andy also showed us the star constellations and the wonderful stories behind them. The children participated well and were keen to show off their knowledge when Andy asked questions.
This is what Andy said in his email too -
It was lovely to be there, and the children were amazing. Please thank the children for me and tell them from me they were brilliant, the first class even presented me with some of their work! Amazing!

Year 3's Trip to London!

We took the children in Year 3 to the Natural History Museum in London to consolidate our learning about rocks and fossils.  They had an amazing day exploring the Museum and were able to talk about the fossils and dinosaurs we saw in terms of what they had learnt in class: They knew that the fossils were found in sedimentary rock, and could explain how they had been formed over millions of years.  They were stunned by the size of some of the dinosaurs (large and small!) and loved the T-Rex.  The children were also really pleased to see the actual Icthyosaur found by Mary Anning in Lyme Regis – the most important fossil ever found at that time.  We had lots of shouts of “We know about her!”  It was a great experience!
